A Poem by Baylee Johnson

Where I Come From

I come from a big busy city called New Orleans.
Where is taught to love, live and be grateful.
Under the caring eyes of my mother, Sherri, and my father, Carl, I lived life to the fullest and had no worries.
In New Orleans, you woke up to the strong, rancid smell of swamps near by, and the buzzing of blood thirsty mosquitoes put me to sleep.
During the years we always celebrated Mardi Gras with colorful shiny beads and moon pies. I have long since dreamed for more alligator-on-a-stick, my favorite.

With German and Irish back grounds, I come from a long line of caring hands, warm hearts and great cooks.
Soon my family and I came home to our extended family in Columbia, where everyone was close and cheerful.
I love Columbia, because everyone knows everyone and the smallest drama is the biggest news. There I got my first and ever so strange little brother, Connor.

Many things have shaped me into the person I am today, but probably the most influential has also been the most tragic. The thing that broke my heart was when my father had a heart attack and suffered a brain injury.
It has been a wild and crazy turn for my whole family but in my point of view a thing that has brought us closer together. Some days I wake up and wish I could go back and change it all but God has great plans for my family.
Life is like a rose, beautiful, but at the same time full of nasty thorns that make it hard to handle.
