Alford A. Bennett, 80, Song Leader at Old Concord UMC

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, November 26, 2005 at 1 p.m. at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home for Alford A. Bennett, 80, who passed away Wednesday at Westlake Regional Hospital. He was retired from OshKosh and was a farmer and member of Old Concord United Methodist Church where he had served as song leader and was a Sunday School teacher.

Mr. Bennett was the son of the late Frank and Della Gibbons Bennett of Adair County.

He is survived by:
  • His wife, Zela Hoover Bennett of Fairplay

  • Three sons: Kenneth Bennett and his wife Ernestine of Columbia; Rev. Clifton Bennett and his wife Rosemary of Columbia; and Ernest Bennett of Fairplay

  • Two sisters: Ruby Jones of Greensburg and Ruth Hayes of Columbia

  • Five grandchildren: Joey Bennett, Craig Bennett, Mark Bennett, Leslie Rodgers and Jennielynn Bennett

  • Three great grandchildren
He was preceded in death by one sister Ina Harmon and by four brothers, Forrest, Ray, Talmadge and Virgil Bennett.

Visitation begins after 2:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Bro. Kerry Yates and Bro. Elbert Hadley will officiate at the Saturday afternoon service. Interment will be in the Haven Hill Cemetery.
