Carlos William (Bill) Lile, 96, Greensburg, KY (1927-2023)

Greensburg Fire Chief Carlos William "Bill" Lile departed this life on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at the Campbellsville Nursing & Rehab Center. He was 96 years old.

The funeral services for Chief Bill Lile will be conducted at 1pmCT on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 S. Main St., Greensburg, KY, with Bro. Wilburn Bonta officiating. Burial will follow in the Greasy Creek Cemetery with Firefighter Rites.

Visitation is requested from 4pmCT until 8pmCT on Friday at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, and will continue after 7amCT on Saturday until time of the funeral service.


Carlos William Lile, son of the late Edward Wayne Lile and Ida Pearle Oakes Lile, was born on Saturday, March 19, 1927 in Springfield, Illinois.

He had made a profession of faith in Christ, and was a member and long-time trustee at Greasy Creek Baptist Church. He was the former owner and operator of Lile's Ashland Station, former maintenance worker for the Green County School System, and retired from maintenance for the Jane Todd Crawford Hospital. Mr. Lile was Greensburg Fire Chief and member of the Greensburg/Green County Fire Department starting in 1957. Chief Lile was one of the last founding members of the fire department, and at one time, one of the oldest fire chiefs in the State of Kentucky. He was also a member and former President of the Green County Sportsman Club.

Survived by his wife of 70 years, Barbara Sue Reece Lile of Greensburg, having united in marriage on October 11, 1952.

Other survivors include a son: Terry Lile of Campbellsville; a daughter and son-in-law: Mandy and Mike Cox of Greensburg; son-in-law: Kenneth "Ken" Childers of Edmonton; five grandchildren: Melody and Brian Baker of Center, Michelle and Barry Dobson of Campbellsville, Samantha and Luke Buckman of Lexington, Reece and Katelyn Cox, and Briley Cox all of Greensburg; three great-grandchildren: Brett and Chelsea Dobson, Aidan Grindle, and Isaac Grindle; a sister and brother-in-law: Ann and Tom Mahoney of Elizabethtown; bonus daughter: Kim Johnson of Greensburg; bonus grandchildren: Trey and Hayden Walsh; and a host of other relatives and many friends.

Chief Lile was also preceded in death by a daughter: Judy Childers on February 6, 2022; a daughter-in-law: Pat Lile; and a brother and three sisters: Floyd Lile, Marge Kessler, Edith Squires, and Clydene Bagby.

The family has asked that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Gideon Bible Fund or WHAS Crusade for Children, which can be made at the funeral home.

Pallbearers: Lawrence Gupton, Woodson Risen, Bill Taylor, Walt Parrott, Steve Gupton, Todd England, Todd Cox, Matthew Taylor, and Green County/Greensburg Fire Department

Honorary Pallbearers: Any Emergency Personnel, and current and former employees of Jane Todd Crawford Hospital
