CYRUS. Basketball: John Burr, LWJC Coach Everyone remembers the Columbia Redhounds and Adair County High School Coach John Burr; but Cyrus presents a little-known facet of the legendary coach's career By CYRUS ColumbiaMagazine.com Central Ohio Bureau Chief The advent of basketball season always brings to mind legendary Coach John Burr, whose coaching career spanned 27 years (1941-1968); two high schools: the old Columbia High and later, Adair County High; and 572 victories high school victories. All Adair Countians over a certain age remember Coach Burr, and many still can recite chapter and verse of his string of outstanding teams, players, and coaching successes. The starting five for Burr's stint at LWJC in the winter of '46 were Dillard Cundiff (from Jamestown), Joe Montgomery and Darrell May (both from Science Hill), Hubert Reed (Oneida) and John Wesley Pierce (Nancy, Ky.) The bench was composed of Allen Young (Columbia), Hubert Edwards (Pickett), and William McWorter (Jamestown.) Only nine of the LWJC games were reported in the News, including two victories over Campbellville, a split with Cumberland College and with the Science Hill Independent team, and a win over the Lebanon Independent team. Coach Burr's overall record for the nine games was 5-4. And by the way, in November '42, the starting five for the '42-43 Lindsey Wilson Blue Raider team later broken up by World War II was composed of:
