Monica J. Gartin, 50, Campbellsville, KY (1972-2023)

Monica J. Gartin of Campbellsville passed away Sunday morning February 5th, 2023, at Jane Todd Crawford Hospital in Greensburg, Kentucky after a long hard fought battle with cancer. She was 50 years old.

She was born on Saturday, September 2, 1972. Monica came to know Christ at an early age and was baptized at Second Baptist Church in Greensburg where she remained a faithful member until her passing. She is survived by her son: Latrelle Irvin, her mother Beverly Calhoun and father Billy Gene Mitchell, all of Campbellsville, Kentucky; two sisters and one brother: Satara Gartin of Campbellsville, Kentucky, Billy "Bud" Gartin and his wife Tiffany of Garner, North Carolina and Derenda Harris and her husband Leon of Louisville, Kentucky. She was also blessed with bonus siblings, LaTosha (Berry) Winston, Jesse (Portee) Thomas, DeWayne Thomas. She was affectionately called Monkamonk by a host of nieces, nephews and great nephews. She was also blessed with several aunts, uncles and cousins. Monica had two special cousins and a friend in her life that she spent a lot of her free time with: Marva Young Schrembs, Veronica Cleaves and Millie Hodges Milby.

After graduating from Green County High School she went on to study nursing at Elizabethtown Community College where she earned her Nursing Degree. She worked as a RN at Jane Todd Hospital for more than 20 years working in many different departments during her time there. Her nursing friends say that she was the best IV starter you have ever seen! No matter what, family was always first for Monica and she made sure everyone knew that. The love that she had for her son Latrelle was like no other. She was the Best Big Sister to all of her siblings! One of her favorite things to do was go on family vacations to the beach. She loved and listened to all types of music like Country, Gospel, R&B as well as Trap music!!! Monica loved singing karaoke and dancing!

She was preceded in death by her sister Brittany Turner and both her paternal and maternal grandparents. As well as four special uncles.

Funeral Service for Monica Gartin will be Friday, February 10, 2023, at 1pmET at First Baptist Church of Campbellsville, 704 East Broadway, Campbellsville, Kentucky. Minister will be Rev. Dr. George P. Lee III, Eulogy and Rev. Josh Miller will serve as Master of Ceremony.

Wake and visitation will be at First Baptist Church of Campbellsville on Thursday, February 9, 2023, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Eastern Time and Friday, 7 a.m. Eastern Time until time of service at 1 p.m. at the church.

Entombment will be in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens, Campbellsville, KY
