Slate Roc Haunted Holler will scare the bejeebers out of you! It's going on tonight, just across the Metcalfe County line, on the Granville Sexton Road. It's scheduled for two nights, Friday, October 28, and Saturday, October 29, 2005, from dark to after midnight. To get there from Columbia: Go to Church at the intersection of Highway 80 and Highway 768. This is immediately east of the LBN overpass. Go east on 768 to Price's Creek Road. Take a left on Price's Creek Road. You'll pass Moore Cemetery. Keep going until you have gone past Price's Creek Baptist Church. Granville Sexton Road is a little way past Price's Creek Baptist Church. You'll see signs all along the way from Highway 80 which guide you to Halloween Holler. If you get lost, just look for the signs. Or stop and ask directions, even if you are a man. Go at your own risk! Not for the faint of heart. Or, just follow the signs from the intersection of KY 80 and KY 61 - Edmonton RD and Burkesville RD. The directions are well marked. Photos accompany this article It's the scariest place you could go to tonight. Just ask Daril Salyers, proprietor of D&F Grocery in Gradyville. "We did pretty good until the spook jumped out with the chainsaw running"!, he said. "We weren't ready for that." Mr. Salyers was accompanied by his wife, Frances, the co-proprietor of D&F. Mr. Salyers says there were a lot of cars going through the Holler when he was there the first night, Friday, October 28, 2005. There is no specific charge for the event, but contributions can be made at the Bennett Ridge side of the trail. It's the Second Annual Slate Roc Haunter Holler Celebration on Granville Sexton Road, just beyond Penick's Chapel in Metcalfe County and Bennett Ridge Road in Adair County. Granville Sexton Road runs from Bennett Ridge Road to Price's Creek Road. There are giant spider webs, live spooks, ghosts, goblins, gremlins, jack o'lanterns, pumpkins, wrecked cars, apparitions, and knife-wielding pirates. It's all there for the delight of kids of all ages. It was started last year by Tim Campbell and his girl friend, Stephanie Slater. Tim Campbell is from Floyd County, up in the mountains, but he moved to Metcalfe County in 1990, has drunk the Sulphur water, and has become a naturalized Metcalfe Countian. "We were picking pumpkins with Stevie Gibson," Tim Campbell said, "and we got the idea to place them along the roadway, and it just grew from there." Tim and Stephanie are being aided tonight by a lot of people, including Adair Countian Joey Parnell, Tim's sister Michelle Campbell, and Howard Slater and Dave Selner of bear trap fame, and some real fine spooks and goblins: Andrew, Cody, Chastity, Chelsie, Kelsie, Frank, Allen, and Chris. These live actors provide spider bait and can jump out and scare the devil out of you anywhere along the way. Last year, more than 200 cars went through Halloween Holler, and it's fame spread to as far away as Gradyville. "Two cars are more than we see all year," Tim Campbell said, adding that he anticipates a lot more this year. For the faint hearted and tree huggers, take a day-time trip, the fall color in this area is a pretty as any anywhere in the world. This story was posted on 2005-10-28 18:10:31
