Important dates coming up for the 2006 elections

"Anyone who has moved, changed their name, or need to register as a new voter should come by the Clerk's office in the next few days," Ann Melton, Adair County Court Clerk says.

The exact days the books will be open will depend on when the School Board elects to have the Special Election, either December 6, 2005, or December 13, 2005.

The books will close 28 days prior to the date of the election.

This means that if the election is December 6, then the last date to update registrations will be Monday, November 7, 2005.

But if the election is December 13, the last day to update registration, will be one week later, or Monday, November 14.

The books will re-open seven days after either December 13, if the election is December 6.

The books will re-open December 20, if the election is December 13, 2005.

Candidates for county office start filing November 9, 2005

The first day to file for County office will be November 9, 2005. Candidates can file until January 31, 2006.

The cost to file is $50.00.

All papers will be available in the Adair County Court Clerk's office starting November 9, 2005.

There will be two school board seats up for election in 2006. The District 1 seat now held by Greg Willis will be subject to an election, as will the District 3 seat now held by Chris Watts.

Also, the office of Mayor of Columiba and the six City of Columbia Council seats will be up for election.

Candidates for School Board races and the City Races will have until the second Tuesday in August, August 8, 2006, to file their nominating papers.

Also, the Soil Conservation Board candidates will have until August 8 to file for office.
