The 50th Reunion of the Adair County High School Class of 1955 was held Saturday afternoon, September 24, 2005, at Magic Acres Farm, the fabulous home that magician Lance Burton built for his mom and dad, Hilma (Akin) and Bill Burton.

Hilma and Bill shared their home with us for our 45th reunion and Hilma welcomed us back for our 50th.

The activities on Saturday were what you would anticipate at a 50th reunion-warm fellowship and delicious food in an incredible setting.

Subjects discussed:

  • Classmates who didn't show up: Too sick? Too busy? Family complications? Afraid they would look older than the rest of us? Conclusion - They missed a great time with some interesting, entertaining people who share their history and memories . . . and we missed them!

  • Our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Cutest! Most intelligent! Most talented!

  • Old times: State tourney in '54 and '55. Bunny hop around the Square. Brown's Drug Store. G & M Grill. Our class sponsors, Mrs. Berenice Flowers and Miss Mary Lucy Lowe. Teachers, Mrs. Mary Richards, Miss Willie Rosenbaum, Miss Frances Russell, Coach John Burr. Geometry taught by Principal Kelly Cocanaugher.

  • Pictures and Memorabilia: We traded photos. Looked at old personal albums, our ACHS Albums, pictures taken at former reunions. The grandchildren, of course! An extraordinary item, an action photo of Terry Randall and Johnny Cox taken during a game when Terry's Georgia Tech beat UK by 19 points, presented to Terry by Richard "Dicky" Shrader.

This was a memorable gathering. We appreciate the gracious hospitality of Hilma Burton and the efforts of organizers, Carol Hancock Janes and Nancy Turner Randall.
