David Cameron Hopper, 93, Russell Springs, KY (1928-2022)

David Cameron Hopper of Russell Springs passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at his residence. He was 93 years old.

The funeral service will be held at 3:30pmCT on Sunday, June 26, 2022, at Fairview Baptist Church in Russell Springs, KY, with Rev. John Wilson and Bro. Bill Mullins officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery, with military honors by Russell County Honor Guard and Masonic Rites by Masonic Lodge 941.

Public Visitation will be held from 1:30pmCT to 3:30pmCT on Sunday, June 26, at Fairview Baptist Church in Russell Springs, KY.


He was born in Russell Springs, KY on August 17, 1928, a son of the late Lucy (Hammond) and Estill Hopper.

He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church, Russell Springs, and Masonic Lodge 941 of Russell Springs.

David Cameron served in the U.S. Navy from 1948-1952 aboard the USS Aggerholm during the Korean Conflict.

He retired from East KY Power in Winchester, KY where he worked as an electrical engineer.

David Cameron is survived by a daughter, Pamela Smith, wife of Judge John R. Adams (Retired), of Lexington, KY; a son, Gene Vance, husband of Connie Smith, of Russell Springs, KY; a sister, Betty Lunsford, of Russell Springs, KY.

a brother, Marion, husband of Kathy Hopper, of Apopka, FL;

6 grandchildren, Dr. Allison S. Cherry (Dr. Brent), Heather Dando (John), Trevor Smith, Megan Redmon (Jason), Jonathan E. Adams, Rebecca Carmichael (Matthew), and 13 great grandchildren

He is also survived by many special nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Faye Smith Hopper, brothers Jarvis Hopper, Lewis Hopper, Edwin Hopper, sisters Doris Wade, Patricia Neathery Hughes, Martha Hopper and also an infant sibling.

Pallbearers: Evan Cherry, Beau Cherry, Dr. Brent Cherry, Will Dando, John Dando, Jonathan Adams, Matthew Carmichael, Jason Redmon.

In lieu of flowers the family ask memorial donations be made to the Fairview Cemetery Fund.
