Letter: CASA is wonderful organization Comments re: Help children as a new Advocate volunteer By Mary Bardin I am a CASA volunteer. CASA has such a positive impact for the children and courts. The more volunteers we can get, the more help we can provide to these children. A CASA volunteer has face to face interaction with the children in the home and at school activities, and becomes the eyes for the courts. CASA works side by side with Cabinet for Family Services, but volunteers actually are the "hands-on person" for the Cabinet. The Cabinet is not able to have the same close contact as CASA volunteers, due to their overwhelming client caseload. CASA is responsible for providing reports to the courts. The gratification comes when the judge and attorneys read the report and verbalize the impact of that report on the decision for that child. When that child knows there is someone on their side, the relationship and trust grows. Children who have been removed from their parents and often from numerous foster homes often have no one they can truly trust. CASA may be the one that can change that child's feeling of hopelessness to one of well-being. CASA is a wonderful organization. I hope this is something you will consider joining as a volunteer, or perhaps make a donation. The children deserve the best.
