Memories of the Simpson Milling Co. Photo accompanies this story By Lila Ford The Simpson Milling Co. was located on Water Works Street in Columbia, KY. The owner was Ernest Simpson. Mr. Simpson later sold the mill to Charles Barnes, who, in turn, sold the business to Homer Goodin. The mill is no longer standing. There are six men are in the photo which accompanies this story: Delbert Corbin, Lester Curry, Thelbert Curry, Willie Stone, Joe Simpson, and Ernest "Red" Simpson, the owner of the business. Today, there are only three members of the six still living: Delbert Corbin, Thelbert Curry and Joe Simpson. Thelbert Curry, my father, recalls starting out with the mill in 1958 making $6.00 a day. He worked for six years at the mill. He as 22 years old when he started there. On Tuesday, August 9, 2005, he turned 69 years old. When Dad quit the mill he went to work for Marvin and Coy Downey in the furniture store, and from there he opened Curry's Floor Covering. He is currently owner of Curry's Floor Covering & Wallpaper, which he has operated for 34 years. Lila Ford, Columbia, Ky. Email: lila607@yahoo.com This story was posted on 2005-08-13 16:09:59
