Extension service will cook up samples of local produce Friday, July 29, 2005 Food will come from Farmers Market stands All Adair Countians invited to the sampling By David Herbst Adair Extension Agent for Agriculture Temperature rising during the summer means different things to different people. To me, it means that a lot of the produce in the garden is ready to harvest and eat. Summer time is my favorite season for many reasons, but one of the main ones is that I will be eating a lot of fresh produce. The Adair County Farmers' Market is the place to find locally grown, fresh produce; and on Friday, July 29, we are going to cook them for you to sample. Kelli Bonifer, Adair County Family and Consumer Science Extension Agent, and I will be cooking up various dishes from produce bought at the Farmers Market. The Farmers Market opens at 6:00 a.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays. On Friday, July 26, Kelli and myself will start selecting vegetable produce at 6:00 a.m., and start preparing them for you to sample. At 7:00 a.m., we should have some items ready, and will continue to provide samples until 10:00 a.m. that morning. We invite all people in Columbia and Adair County to come out and sample the prepared vegetable dishes on Friday, July 26. We will also have recipes for you to take home and try yourself. It maybe morning hours when we cook and serve, but the taste is still the same. It will be great! For more information on selecting, preparing and serving fresh produce contact the Adair County Cooperative Extension Service office by calling 384-2317; or visit the office located at 409 Fairground St., in Columbia. Educational programs of the Cooperative Extension Service serve all people regardless of race, color, age, sex, religion, disability, or national origin. This story was posted on 2005-07-26 08:22:07
