Escapee from Adair County Regional Jail quickly apprehended

  • Detective Ricky Underwood and K-9 dog "Til" capture fugitive in field in Hudson Street area
  • Six KSP units, Columbia Police Department, take part in action

An inmate from the Adair County Regional Jail had only a brief period of freedom after his escape was reported to the Kentucky State Police at about 9:00 p.m., last night, Sunday, July 3.

The inmate, Corey Haney, 26, was found in a field in the Hudson Street area after a 30-minute search with a State Police K-9 unit, Detective Ricky Underwood and K-9 German Shepherd "Til."

In all, 6 KSP units were involved in the chase, along with Columbia Police Department personnel.

For a brief time, the escapee ran, chased on foot by Detective Underwood and Til. Til reached the suspect first and circled him. The suspect complied with Detective Underwood's order to lie down on the ground or else the dog would bite him.

Corey Haney was lodged back in the Adair County Regional Jail and was charged with escape 2nd degree.

Prior to his escape, Haney was being held in jail for a parole violation.
