Large number in Bliss, Gradyville area without phone service Outage now over 4 hours duration; no firm time for restoration available UPDATE: Service restored at around 10:00 p.m., June 30, 2005 By Ed Waggener Since around 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 30, 2005, a large section of Alltel's service area from just west of the J.M. Shelley place on the Edmonton Road has been without land-line telephone service. An Alltel person is now working at at an Alltel service point near the Jack Scott place. Alltel had indicated at around 2:30 p.m. that they were not aware of the outage, but suggested that the service might be restored at around 7:00 p.m. However, the service person handling on the scene could not give a time. "It may be a lot longer," the service person said, "it may be in the cable." The cable at or very near the point where the service person is working today was damaged during the construction of county water lines a few years ago, and a similar area lost land line phone service for a few days. The area affected reaches the KY 80 bridge over Big Creek on the west side of Gradyville. West of that bridge, land line telephone service is offered by Duo-County Telephone cooperative and is not directly affected. Cell phones work. And a few people in the area are able to communicate with email. Otherwise communications with and within the area are dismal. This ColumbiaMagazine.com story is coming from 3041 Edmonton Road, but carried by RareyNet (CKIC), a wireless service. My email, ed@epwbooks.com is over the same system, and we can be contacted at that email address. This story was posted on 2005-06-30 18:15:11
