Columbia's Allan Trotter winner of national Teacher of the Year award Trotter, a teacher at Metcalfe County Middle School, was sponsored in the competition by the Metcalfe VFW Post 6281 (Two photos accompany this article) by Metcalfe County VFW member Ron DeVore Allan Trotter, a member of the Metcalfe County Middle School faculty in Edmonton, won the Teacher of the Year award after having been sponsored through district, state and national competition by the Metcalfe County VFW Post 6281. Allan, his wife Samantha and their daughter Alex traveled from their home in Columbia to Louisville Friday, June 24, for the Kentucky VFW Annual State Convention where his award was presented. This is an honor, both for Allan and for our VFW Post which sponsored him in the nationwide competion. After he was nominated by Joyce Hancock, Allan fairly sailed right though District competion and then swept state honors. All in all, we are very proud of Allan Trotter and his accomplishments. Among the honored guests observing Allan's acceptance of the Teacher of the Year Award were Louisville Chief of Police, representatives from the Louisville mayors office, Department of Kentucky Veterans adminstation, Frankfort, Department of Veterans Affairs, Washington DC, along with national representatives from both the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary.
