Good News: historic sculpture has K.A.C. funding to proceed

Ground breaking will be led by the local VFW on Saturday, July 2, at 10 am.
Vonnie Kolbenschlag received the good news that a Kentucky Arts Council grant she has been pursuing for two years has at last been funded.

This ensures that a public memorial sculpture of the US 1st Kentucky Cavalry of the Civil War will be located in the Columbia City Cemetery where Col. Frank Wolford, commander of that regiment, is buried.

A series of public forums will be held where people will have the opportunity learn more about how the sculpture will be created and give suggestions to the artist.

Citizens will be asked to share stories and photographs that have been handed down pertaining to the Civil War. High school and college students are invited to attend and, if interested, work with the highly-qualified artist, Tim Smith, to learn about sculpting techniques.

Dates and times for these meetings will be announced on this website, in the local newspaper, ad on the radio.
