Elizabeth (Libby) Norris, 76, Burkesville, KY (1945-2021)

Mrs. Elizabeth Gayle (Bruton) "Libby" Norris of Burkesville passed away on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at the Cumberland County Hospital. She was 76 years old.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1pmCT on Thursday, December 2, 2021, in the Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home, 601 N Main St, Burkesville, KY, with Bro. Nicki Richards officiating. Burial will follow in the Liberty Cemetery in Cumberland County, Kentucky.

The family will receive friends after 3pmCT on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 until the funeral hour on Thursday in the Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home in Burkesville, Kentucky.


She was born in Glasgow (Barren County), Kentucky on Sunday, January 21, 1945, the daughter of James Nile and Ineese (Davis) Bruton. She was of the Methodist faith, member of Liberty United Methodist Church, was a member of the first Nursing Class at Western Kentucky University in 1966, was the Secretary of Cumberland Co. Hospital Board, served two terms as Chairperson of the Cumberland Co. Library Board, member of Cumberland Co. Homemakers, Member of Daughters of American Revolution, member of Womans Club, former employee of Cumberland Co. Hospital, Clinton Co. Hospital, Director of Nursing at Cumberland Valley Manor, Lake Cumberland Home Health, and worked in Nursing for thirty three years.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister, Dixie (Bruton) Riddle.

She is survived by her husband, William C. "Bill" Norris of Burkesville, Kentucky, whom she wed on Saturday, January 29, 1966, children, Amanda "Mandy" Bell of Monticello, Kentucky, Amy (& Pat) Proffitt of Burkesville, Kentucky, Jennifer "Jenny" (& Clint) Boyett of Cookeville, Tennessee, sibling, Steve (& Bobbie) Bruton of Cookeville, Tennessee, grandchildren, Kari Proffitt, Evan Proffitt, Tori Perkins, Tanner Bell, Taylor Bell, Ryleigh Boyett, Jackson Boyett, great-grandson, Jettson Perkins, nieces, Christi (& Kelly Eckles) Riddle of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, Betsy (& Lawrence) Sheeley of Cookeville, Tennessee, nephew, Seth Bruton of Cookeville, Tennessee.

In lieu of flowers donations are suggested to the Liberty Cemetery C/O Citizens Bank of Cumberland County, 209 Keen St., Burkesville, Kentucky 42717, in Mrs. Norris's memory.
