Soccer: LWC Men face Grand View in NAIA opening round

The No. 11-ranked and No. 2-seeded Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team will continue post-season play tomorrow with an opening round match against No. 3-seed Grand View (IA) in the semifinals of the Columbia Bracket of the NAIA Men's Soccer Championship. Kickoff is set for 5:30pmCT in Columbia, MO.

The Blue Raiders (13-2-2, 10-1 MSC) enter tomorrow's game after defeating No. 3-seed Cumberlands (KY) 2-0 in the Mid-South Conference tournament championship match. Nathaniel Opoku's two late goals in the last five minutes sealed the victory for the Blue Raiders giving them their 15th tournament title in program history.


Opoku continues to lead the Blue Raiders in goals scored with 18 in 17 games this season. Meanwhile, Alexander Koziolek leads the team in assists with 10 after 16 games, a career-high. As a team, Lindsey Wilson have outshot their opponents 340-146 this year outscoring them 46-20.

As for the Vikings (11-5-2, 7-3-1 HEART), they enter tomorrow's match after losing 9-1 to No. 1-ranked Central Methodist (MO) in the semifinals of the Heart of America Conference tournament.

Senior defender Jacob Gutierrez leads the Vikings in goals scored with six in 18 games while senior midfielder Gavin Nevshemal and senior forward Aaron Williams both sit tied at the lead in assists with five. As a team, the Vikings have scored 38 goals this season and average 13.7 shots per game.

This will be the third all-time meeting between these two programs with the Blue Raiders winning the previous meeting 2-1 on October 17, 2012. The Blue Raiders remain undefeated against the Vikings going 2-0 all-time against Iowa-based program.
