Soccer: LWC Women exit MSC Tournament

By Kyle Jackson

The No. 11-ranked and No. 2-seed Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team were knocked out of the Mid-South Conference tournament Wednesday afternoon after losing to Cumberlands (KY) 2-0 in the semifinals.

The Blue Raiders (12-4, 10-1 MSC) were outshot by the Patriots (15-4-1, 6-4-1 MSC) 19-4 with the Patriots holding an 8-2 shot on goal mark.

The Patriots opened the scoring in the 19th minute through Jenna Rockwell as the side strung together some quick passes in the midfield. The quick passing was enough to create a lane for Rockwell through the Blue Raider defense who finished the move off with a low rolling effort under the arms of onrushing Maya Caon.

The Patriots then doubled their advantage in the 32nd minute as Jayden Boelter received a pass on the right-hand side of the box, hitting a first-time shot that beat the outstretched arm of Caon in goal.

Into the second half, the Blue Raiders struggled to find the chances as the Patriots defense held firm denying the Blue Raiders a goal for only the third time this season.

The Blue Raiders now wait for a bid into the NAIA National Championship. The NAIA Selection Show will take place next Monday, November 15th at 11amCT on the NAIA Facebook page.
