Best pumpkins came from Adair grower and artist October 2021 was made happier and more entertaining by the greatest pumpkin of the Commonwealth - largest in the state - grown in Adair County by Scott Bayuk and carved by Adair County artist Drew Smith. Smith has been making art with pumpkins and delighting crowds with his own pumpkins and the giant pumpkin he carved this year was donated to him for carving by Bayuk. Bayuk said, "My 1,883-pound pumpkin, 'pretty orange,' is the largest in the state - officially it's the new state record. His even larger 2,376-pound pumpkin was disqualified at the weigh-off for a soft spot caused by mice trying to make it their home. It would have been not only the state record but also would have been the largest grown in the United states this year and 3rd in the world." Flatwoods must have good soil to grow great pumpkins. Plus, he said, "I work very hard on my soil in the off season to balance out the nutrient levels so it's ready for spring time planting." This story was posted on 2021-11-01 06:59:06
