ACSO: Russell Co. man arrested after fleeing traffic stop

On Thursday, October 21, 2021, at around 6:30pmCT, K-9 Deputy Chandler Staten attempted to initiate a traffic stop on KY 55 South on a 1993 Ford Ranger.

The operator refused to stop for Deputy Staten, continuing out KY55. At one point the vehicle left the roadway and drove through a gate, leading the deputy off the roadway through a pasture field.

The driver eventually bailed out of the vehicle, and pursuit continued on foot. The driver was apprehended a short time later, and taken into custody.


Stephen Shane Flatt, 48, of Russell Springs, was arrested on charges of:

  • Fleeing and evading police 1st degree (vehicle )
  • Fleeing and evading police 2nd degree (foot)
  • Operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs
  • Operating on dui suspended license
  • Reckless driving
  • No insurance
  • Criminal mischief 3rd degree
  • No registration plates
  • No tail lamps
  • Two outstanding warrants of arrest served for Adair District Court
Deputy Staten was assisted by additional units from the Adair County Sheriff's Office, the Columbia Police Department, and Kentucky State Police.
