Day Trip: a visit to downtown Jamestown By Linda Waggener Jamestown, Kentucky, the county seat of Russell County, is surrounded by the oldest lake in our region, Lake Cumberland, a reservoir built in the 1950s for flood control and hydroelectric power production. Its development has resulted in strong tourism business in Russell, Clinton, Laurel, McCreary, Pulaski, and Wayne counties in south central Kentucky. Lake Cumberland claims to be the Houseboat Capital Of The World. Sixteen miles of the Cumberland River flow through Jamestown. The River is among the tops in the nation for fishing, as well as kayaking and canoeing. Lake Cumberland State Resort Park, Jamestown Marina and the State Dock are all nearby. There are hiking trails at the Park and at Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery. There are 36,000 acres of public land surrounding the lake. This story was posted on 2021-09-30 08:07:51
