LWC: 90 student-athletes earn NAIA Scholar-Athlete awards

By Kyle Jackson

Ninety Lindsey Wilson student-athletes were named 2020-21 NAIA Scholar-Athletes, NAIA officials announced on Wednesday as part of the NAIA National Awards Day.

The 90 Scholar-Athletes are the most named in any one academic year for Lindsey Wilson athletics.

In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved junior academic status.

Women's soccer led the way for the Blue Raiders with 10 honorees while volleyball and football each had nine scholar-athletes.

The women's swimming team had the best GPA on campus out of 16 programs, recording a 3.72 for the 2020-21 school year. As a whole, the 16 programs averaged a GPA of 3.35.

Over 11,000 student-athletes and over 2,000 teams in the NAIA earned the award.
