Carter named NAIA Defensive Player of the Week

By Kyle Jackson

Robert Carter of the Lindsey Wilson football team has been named the NAIA Football Defensive Player of the Week, officials at the national office announced on Monday.

The honor comes on the heels of being named the Mid-South Conference Defender of the Week this morning.

The Lilburn, Georgia native recorded three interceptions in Lindsey Wilson's 34-2 win over No. 4-ranked Keiser (Fla.) on Saturday, a program record. Two of the three interceptions came in the red zone, including one in the endzone to help prevent the Seahawks from an offensive score on the day. Two of his interception led to two possessions that the Blue Raiders went on to score touchdowns.

He is now tied for the NAIA lead in interceptions this season.

Carter also led the top-ranked Blue Raiders with eight tackles, including five solo tackles while adding another pass breakup. This is the first NAIA weekly honor of Carter's career.

Football returns to the field on September 25, 2021, when they travel to St. Andrews (NC). Kickoff is set for NoonCT.
