Historic encounter: Bill Clinton meets Jonathan Morris

Yesterday, on ABC news website, it was reported that former President Bill Clinton will spend two years promoting tsunami recovery in Southeast Asia.

When the former President was in Thailand in February, 2005, Jonathan Morris, a member of the Gradyville Community and the son of Adair natives Jack Morris and the late Judy Baker Morris, had a chance to talk with Mr. Clinton.

The following is Jonathan Morris' account of the meeting:

It's been a day of meeting famous people today. After having the Thaiprime minister walk by me this morning (in a situation of unbelievably laxsecurity),

I rode a motorcycle out to the most devastated village, where Clinton andBush, Sr. were appearing.

Clinton is charismatic and popular, Bush is not and quickly beat a pathback to the van while the security guards had to keep Thais and Americans at baywhile they were trying to shake his hand.

I, for some reason, was on the good side of the restraining fence (Ithink the Thais thought I was Secret Service). Anyway, shortly after he explainedin detail to a group of Thai school kids that he was wearing a Colombianbracelet,

I shook Clinton's hand--his right arm is much more well toned than therest of his body--and had the following exchange:

JONATHAN MORRIS: "I miss you, man."

BILL CLINTON: "Thanks, I appreciate that. I am glad that you're here. [He was gladthatI was there. How nice is that?] Where are you from?"

JONATHAN MORRIS: "Kentucky."

BILL CLINTON: "How long have you been here?"

JONATHAN MORRIS: "Six years. I came with Peace Corps and just haven't seen fit to gohomeyet. (Followed by direct eye contact and an exchange of knowing eyebrowarches.)"

I do miss him.
