Second service begins Sunday at Columbia UMC By Doug Beard, Chairman, Columbia UMC Church Council I appreciate being a member of the United Methodist Church. I have been since being baptized and confirming my vows of commitment to the church in 1968. The United Methodist Church was created in 1968, but Methodism traces its beginning to the days of John and Charles Wesley who initiated the mission of the Methodist movement that was born from a small student group in England at Oxford. During that same period, men like Philip Otterbein and Martin Boehm were directing similar movements that decades later joined as the Evangelical and United Brethren in Christ Church. In 1968 the combined churches joined with the Methodist Church to form today's United Methodist Church. As a person who enjoys studying the theology that defines our denomination, I have always appreciated the fact that we offer diverse forms of organized worship that allow our members and guests to choose the style that gives them their best worship to God. The last time that we offered our two worship services was March 8, 2020. The global pandemic forced us, along with the rest of the world, to make many changes in the way that we convene to worship our God. Since then, our church has worshiped in many different ways including recorded messages for our internet site, live Facebook broadcasts and most recently our blended services On September 12th, we will to return to our two-service format: 9amCT Traditional Worship 10amCT Sunday School 11amCT Contemporary Worship Our congregation will celebrate September 12th as a day dedicated to new era of growth, prosperity, and blessed celebration of our special heritage as United Methodists. We would like to invite everyone to attend this service. The church is located at 202 Burkesville St., Columbia, KY 42728 If you would like to learn more about the beliefs and principles of United Methodism, please call the church (270) 284-2276 to arrange a time to meet with a member of the ministerial team. You can also learn more by visiting the official website of the United Methodist Church at www.umc.org. We look forward to welcoming you to our services and joining us on our continual journey in the Christian faith. This story was posted on 2021-09-08 08:22:01
