Cyrus sends City Council minutes: December 8, 1948

Parking On Narrow Side Streets Regulated
Our diligent central Ohio bureau chief, code name "Cyrus," has appended the following comment to Columbia City Council meeting April 4, 2005 article. We felt it deserved front page exposure.
At a meeting of the City Council on Monday night an ordinance was passed prohibiting parking on both sides of the narrow concrete side streets of Columbia.

Before the ordinance is enforced, warning markers will be placed in each street where necessary.

The Council voted an appropriation of $50 to aid the work of the Adair County Health Department. They also agreed to permit State Police to make arrests within the city limits of Columbia....

(I found no mention of Joe Moore adjourning the meeting. Maybe next time?)

Reporting times past from way up north,

Cyrus
The failure to mention Joe Moore adjourning refers to the 1948 article, I'm sure, because we note the continuation of the current skein in the article. We've now added boldface so that it will be more visible.

We want to show proper reverence for this magnificent tradition, which is every bit as important as it was to keep up with the string of unmissed foul shots by Haskin Rowe in his glory days at Adair County High School.

As for the failure of the 1948 article to note that Joe Moore moved adjournment, I must point out Mr. Moore's experience in statecraft at the time was to help maintain decorum at Tabor School, which was located on Hwy 704 south of the metropolitan area. Joe Moore would have been about a third grader at the time, was not yet a Townie, and was still shooting rabbits with a gumbo as he trod his way across the fields from the Moore homeplace on KY 55 South to and fro each day. - ED
