KY Supreme Court to hear oral arguments in Taylor Co. case By Jamie Neal Frankfort, KY - The Supreme Court of Kentucky will hear oral arguments on April 21, 2021, in a criminal case that originated in Taylor County in 2012. The public can watch proceedings via a livestream on KET's website. To watch proceedings later, visit the Supreme Court section of KET's website. Oral Arguments are scheduled for 9amET on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, for 2019-SC-0538-DG, TONYA FORD V. COMMONWEALTH OF KENTUCKY. Criminal Law. RCr 11.42. Issues include application of "law of the case" and the propriety of the Court of Appeals' review only for manifest injustice because of appellant's counsel's filing of a brief in that court failing to comply with CR 76.12 and prior court orders. Discretionary Review granted: 2/12/2020 Taylor Circuit Court, Judge Samuel T. Spalding Counsel for Appellant: Steven N. Potter Counsel for Appellee: Ken W. Riggs The Supreme Court is the state court of last resort and the final interpreter of Kentucky law. Seven justices sit on the Supreme Court and all seven justices rule on appeals that come before the court. The justices are elected from seven appellate districts and serve eight-year terms. A chief justice, chosen for a four-year term by fellow justices, is the administrative head of the state's court system and is responsible for its operation. The Supreme Court may order a ruling or opinion to be published, which means that the ruling becomes the case law governing all similar cases in the future in Kentucky.
