Senator McGaha one of eight new KWIB appointees

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Feb. 3, 2005) - Governor Ernie Fletcher has appointed eightmembers, including local State Senator Vernie McGaha, to the Kentucky Workforce Investment Board (KWIB). The 25-memberboard develops policies to help Kentuckians have the training, education andskills necessary to get and retain jobs.

"Kentucky's economic success depends on our ability to compete in a globalmarket that is constantly changing. KWIB provides the regional informationand insight that we need to prepare Kentucky's workforce for thesechallenges so that we can strengthen partnerships in the public and privatesectors and move Kentucky forward," said Department for Workforce InvestmentCommissioner Laura E. Owens. KWIB is in the Department for WorkforceInvestment, an agency of the Education Cabinet.

The following is a list of the newly appointed members of KWIB:

Sharon K. Bird, Hazard, is president of Bird Consulting in Richmond andrepresents the business sector. She is a graduate of the University ofKentucky.

George Burkley, Louisville, is president and CEO of DEYTA Factual Foresightin Louisville and represents the business sector. He is the new chairpersonof the KWIB.

John Michael Cary, Louisville, is associated with the Boys Scouts of Americaand represents youth.

William M. Conder, Danville, is a graduate of Earlham College in Richmond,Ind., and represents the business sector. He is retired from the DanaCorporation.

Andrew Frauenhoffer, Frankfort, is the deputy commissioner for theDepartment for Workforce Investment. He holds a bachelor's degree inmechanical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and a Master ofBusiness Administration (MBA) from the University of Southern Mississippi.State Senator Vernie McGaha, Russell Springs, is a retired band director andelementary and middle school principal. He is a graduate of CampbellsvilleUniversity and Western Kentucky University, where he earned master's degreeand Rank I degree. He represents the state legislature. Russell B. Starkey, Paducah, is general manager of the United StatesEnrichment Corporation in Paducah. He represents business.Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson, Frankfort, is the Governor'srepresentative on the board.
