Leighton Lavey discusses character at The Vine service

By Scarlett Birge

Campbellsville, KY - "You're only going to go as far as your character allows," Leighton Lavey, youth pastor at Forks of Elkhorn Baptist Church and 2018 graduate of CU, said at Campbellsville University's The Vine service in Ransdell Chapel Feb. 23.

"Christ is calling us into consistent character out of love," Lavey said.

He read from Genesis 39:7-9 saying: God calls us to exude the characteristics of consistency, faithfulness and love Joseph portrays in this scripture.

"Consistency is key," he said. "Are you consistent in your devotion to the Lord?"

Reading from Galatians 6:7-8, Lavey said God is not able to be deceived because He knows the true character of our hearts. He said God blesses those who are genuinely devoted to him in pure spirit.

"He is looking for the people who will consistently be people of character," he said.

Lavey encouraged students to open up their hearts and minds to God's message to gain wisdom and understanding of His plan, but he said wisdom without consistent character is empty.

"A spiritual gifting and an anointing without consistent character out of love for God leads to nowhere," Lavey said.

He said it is a consistent partnership and connection with God we need in order to go further in life.
