LWC Soccer to host Cumberlands Tuesday

The Lindsey Wilson men and women's soccer teams will host the University of the Cumberlands (KY) at Blue Raider Stadium, 928 Russell Road, Columbia, KY, on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, in their first home games of the season. The women will start the evening off at 6:30pmCT with the men following afterward at 8:30pmCT.

The women's soccer team (1-0, 1-0 Mid-South Conference) enter tomorrow's game after opening the season with a dramatic late win in double overtime against Life (Ga.) on Sunday. Claudia Santillan Escobar had a perfect game assisting Yudaya Nakayenze for the equalizing goal in the second half before finding the back of the net late in double overtime to secure the win.

Nakayenze, who had ten shots, four on goal in the game against Life currently leads the team and conference in shots per game and is tied for first in shots on goal per game in the conference. As a team, Lindsey Wilson is outscoring opponents two-to-one after one game.

The Cumberlands women's soccer team (6-0, 2-0 MSC) continued their undefeated run of games on Saturday with a 3-1 win over Campbellsville University (Ky.). Ainhoa Camara scored two goals in the win and Shara Randez added a third to take care of the Tigers on the road. UC outshot the Tigers 17-7 putting ten shots on goal, forcing seven saves out of the Campbellsville goalie.

Randez's seven goals are the most from a Patriot so far this season and is the second-highest number of goals scored in conference play currently. Camara's three goals in four appearances rank second in the team while she is tied for first in assists with three on the year so far. As a team, Cumberlands are outscoring opponents 18-2. The Patriots are averaging three goals a game, the fourth-highest in the conference.

Lindsey Wilson leads the all-time series against Cumberlands 31-3 with 17 of those wins coming from home.

The Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team (1-1, 1-0) will finally get to play a game at home after having to travel for their last two matches.

The Blue Raiders will welcome the Patriots into Blue Raider Stadium after scoring three goals in the second half to win 5-2 over Life on Sunday. A combination of Cyrus Harmon's two goals and assist paired with Rainer De Jesus two assists on the afternoon helped to seal the Blue Raider comeback and earn the first win of the season.

Harmon currently leads the Blue Raiders in goals scored with three, the second-most scored in the conference currently. The Liberian is currently averaging 1.5 goals per game, the third-highest in the conference, and was selected as the MSC Offensive Player of the Week, Monday. De Jesus leads the team in assists with three in two games so far. The Brazilian currently sits third in the conference rankings averaging 1.5 assists per game. As a team, Lindsey Wilson is outscoring opponents 6-4, averaging three goals a game and 3.5 assists per game, the third-highest assist rate in the conference.

The Cumberlands men's soccer team (1-4-1, 1-1-0 MSC) are looking to get back to winning ways after losing 1-0 to Campbellsville on Saturday. A 52' minute goal was enough for the Tigers to win on the afternoon, outshooting the Patriots 13-11.

Alejandro Gonzalez leads the Patriots with two goals scored this season in five games. Joel Drewery leads the assists category with two on the season so far. As a team, Cumberlands have conceded seven goals in six games, the second-highest total in the MSC. The Patriots lead the conference in saves with 31 averaging 5.17 a game.

Lindsey Wilson leads the all-time series against the Cumberlands 34-1.
