Hazardous Weather Outlook: Overview and Impacts

Mike Keltner, Director of Adair Co. Emergency Management, sends an updated forecast from the National Weather Service in Louisville, with details from this afternoon's briefing on the Hazardous Weather Outlook for the next several days:

Overview:
  • The greatest accumulations of snow, sleet, and freezing rain will occur Wednesday evening through Thursday evening
  • The greatest ice accumulations will likely occur south of the Western Kentucky/Bluegrass Parkways
  • Cold temperatures will persist into next week. Coldest temperatures are forecast to be Sunday night/Monday morning with wind chills potentially below zero

Impacts:
  • Power outages and significant tree damage are expected due to the ice
  • Significant ice, sleet, and snow may cause dangerous driving conditions
  • Travel is strongly discouraged. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency

The National Weather Service in Louisville has issued an Ice Storm Warning: A significant wintry precipitation event is expected to start late tonight and continue through the day on Thursday. At this time, significant and dangerous ice accumulations are expected across the southern half of Kentucky, mainly south of the Western Kentucky and Bluegrass Parkways.
