Robert H. Hutchison, 79, attorney, WWII veteran, dies

Robert H. Hutchison, Jr., 79, 1796 Campbellsville Rd, Columbia, KY, died Monday, December 27, 2004, at 4:30 p.m., at his residence.

A grave side service will be Thursday, December 30, 2004, at 12:30 p.m. (Central Time) at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Jessamine County, with burial to follow. There will be no visitation. Grissom Funeral Home, Columbia, KY, is in charge of arrangements.


He was the son of the late Robert H. and Pauline Walker Hutchison and a member of the Columbia-Union Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by the following:
  • His wife: Linda Ford Hutchison, Columbia, KY
  • Two daughters and sons-in-law: Mary and Don Lester, Piedmont, MO; and Sally and John Humphreys, Prospect, KY
  • Three step-daughters: Angela Harvey, Marsha Wood, Tonya Wright, all of Columbia, KY.
Mr Hutchison was a member of a prominent Adair County family of merchants, lawyers, and community, church, and school leaders .

He was veteran of World War II. Mr. Hutchison was a patriot and a favorite speaker at Veterans Day and Fourth of July events.

He was a retired attorney who practiced law in Columbia for 48 years, and served in a number of official positions.

Mr. Hutchison was active in Republican politics. In 1952 he surprised everyone with a near win in the general election for the U.S. House of Representatives. His home county supported him overwhelmingly, voting 3,976-to-1,880 in his favor.
