LWC Basketball welcomes Cumberlands to Columbia By Kyrin Mayfield The Lindsey Wilson men and women's basketball teams continue their three-game homestands on Saturday, January 16, 2021, against Cumberlands (KY) at the Biggers Sports Center, 360 Spickard Drive, Columbia, KY. The women are scheduled to begin at 1:30pmCT while the men tip off at 4pmCT. Live video and live stats will be available for the contests. Please view the LWC Athletics Home Attendance Protocols for more information. For the women, the Blue Raiders (10-1, 5-1 Mid-South Conference) are winners of their last six games. Reagan Turner averages 22 points each contest, second-most in the MSC. It was Bree Glover, though, who carried Lindsey Wilson to victory on Thursday with 13 points, a career-high 21 rebounds, two away from tying the program record, four assists, and four blocks. The senior forward is second in the MSC with 9.7 rebounds per game. After a hot 7-0 start to the season for Cumberlands (11-2, 7-2 MSC), the Patriots hit a two-game roadblock before their current four-game winning streak. Nineteen players stepped on the court for the Patriots so far this season, while 14 received playing time in 10 or more games. Silvia Veloso leads the squad with 12.5 ppg with Vilma Covane close behind at 11 ppg. The main question is if Lindsey Wilson's defense, which holds opponents to 35.7 percent from the floor, second-best in the MSC, can hold down a Cumberlands offense that shoots 45.9 percent overall, also second-best in the conference. The struggles continue for the Blue Raiders men's basketball team (3-9, 1-8 MSC), as the team dropped its previous seven games. Elijah Jordan leads the squad in scoring with 16 ppg, reaching double figures in all but one game this season. Despite his performance, Lindsey Wilson averages an MSC-worst 68.2 ppg. Rebounding is also difficult for the Blue Raiders as the team averaged only 26.5 rebounds over the last two games. Colen Gaynor could help in that area as the forward is reliable on the glass, recording seven-point-five rebounds per game, the fourth-highest rate in the MSC. Cumberlands (12-4, 6-4 MSC) is off to a decent start to conference play, but in all ten MSC matches, the Patriots finished within single-digits of their opponents. Tevin Olison is scoring at a clip of 22.6 per game, most in the MSC, with a field-goal percentage of 51.1 and 3-point percentage of 40.5. Overall, Cumberlands leads the all-time series 20-57 in men's basketball, but Lindsey Wilson has a 40-33 edge on the women's side and won the last ten in a row.
