She was born in Casey County, KY on January 4, 1931 to the late Ruba and Bertha Carmicle Mathews. She married the love of her life the late Harvey P. Gosser on May 11, 1949. She lived on the Dry Ridge farm that they loved from that date until her death. On this farm, they raised their five children and loved their grandchildren who could do no wrong.

Irene is survived by her children; Hollis Norman Gosser, Mark and Debbie Gosser, Marty K. Gosser all of Liberty and Donna and Gary Robinson of Junction City. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter and caregiver Sharon Y. Gosser. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Eric and Leesha Gosser of Stanford, KY, Brian and Melissa Gosser of Charleston, SC, Michele Gosser of Moreland, KY, Dustin Gosser of Louisville, KY, Zachary and Danielle Gosser of Knoxville, TN, Alex and Isaac Robinson of Junction City, KY and Jake and Aicha Robinson of Paris, France. Great grandchildren include Seth, Aidan and Landon Gosser; Alivia and Pierce Gosser and Eliza and Frederick Gosser.

Irene is also survived by her siblings; Mary and Robert Cramer and Jewell Delrue of Toledo, OH; Johnnie and Gail Mathews of Russell Springs, KY and her little sister, Brenda and Mickey Roy of Greenwood, IN.

Irene was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church where she held many positions over the years. She loved her career as a Head Start teacher in Liberty and Middleburg for 25 years and furthered her own college education in Child Development by takin night classes from various institutions. Irene was active in the community especially as a 4H leader and Youth activities. She and Harvey loved their time in the Casey square dance club and nothing pleased her more than a competitive game of Scrabble with her sisters. Irene loved creating whether she was writing poetry, basket making, picking up a new craft and especially her quilting.

But for all her passions, her greatest was her family. She loved hosting the Mathews Family Reunion over the years and her door was always open. You never left her without her asking "When are you coming back?" She was the happiest when surrounded by that family and set an excellent example of unconditional love.
