Reader shares ad offering cigarettes for $1.55 a carton A reader checked in to say he was surprised to find fellow country boys Carlis Wilson and Morris Shepherd (Shep and Wilson) on the magazine cover recently. He wrote, "ol' Morris is kin to me, but as my Mama would have said, 'God love him, he can't help *that.*' " The reader, who asked to remain nameless, added that just for fun he was perusing the "Adair County News, 1948 (June 2) edition recently, and came across a half-page ad for Harper's Food Market in Columbia (On the Square -- Phone 150 -- We Deliver) announcing a special sale in celebration of their second anniversary in business.
