Veterans honored at Columbia Wal-Mart

Celebrations of our servicemen and women drew large crowds in Adair County on Veterans Day 2004. Veterans were honored at a special breakfast event at Wal-Mart on November 11th which drew upwards of 200 people. On the program, and in attendance, were the following:

Adair County Veterans of Foreign Wars presented Colors and the Stars and Stripes Flag Folding Ceremony with a reading by Robin Smith;

Rev. Stanley Watson provided the opening prayer and Pharmacist Randy Brown gave the welcome address to the group of more than 80 Veterans plus their supporters;

The children in the Col. Wm. Casey Elementary Encore Choir sang The Star Spangled Banner, Spirit of America and God Bless America -- singing under the direction of Miss Crowder were Karen Jo Upchurch, Sara Patton, Mika Grady, Julia Wallace, Morgan Chamness, Mackenzie Martin, Amber Phillips, Rachel Stephens, Sydney Bright, Elizabeth McGaha, Rachel Phipps, Ashley Simpson, Madison Grant, Chloe Cheng, Cally Wilson, Preslie Lawless, Keisha Moss, Ashton Nixon, Natalie Bryant, Devin Graham, B. J. Steinhilber, Ethan Brown, Jason Thrasher, Jacob Keltner, Kyle Burton and Kyle Castaneda;

David Sharp led the Pledge of Allegiance; Senator Vernie McGaha was guest speaker;

Bobby Strange was the Veteran Guest Speaker;

Danny Bragg did Veterans introductions as well as the moving closing of the event which included a mention of his father, his own special hero;

Audrey Jones provided the Remembrance Candle;

Debra Corbin gave Veterans Rocognition: Btry B 1st BN 623D FA (MLRS).
