Remembering Jim Hadley: Covid is real "...Covid is real and I, like many others, did not understand the magnitude of this disease. Jim was healthy and strong and that virus kept regenerating overnight in his lungs. Covid took my husband and my children's father..." By Jan Hadley Wife of Jim Hadley who died from COVID-19 I have honestly been thinking of the right words to say during this difficult process. My husband Jim Hadley died from Covid. Jim was tested 4 times with a negative each time until the morning I took him to the emergency room. He was hospitalized fourteen days. The first week he required 100% oxygen due to the pneumonia that was in both lungs. During that first week he was up moving around showering, cleaning his room and FaceTiming me numerous times throughout the day. The middle of the second week Jim had a bad cough and was trying to cough up stuff out of his lungs and had a spontaneous pneumothorax. He had to have a chest tube and was confined to the bed. Jim got where he could not breathe and to sit up in the bed would drop his oxygen levels to 52%. Jim continued to be strong and fight through it. This past Sunday he was placed on a ventilator to help keep his oxygen levels up. His chest X-rays continued to worsen with no improvement. I called and talked to doctors and nurses and all they would tell me is we really don't know enough about this virus to answer your questions. It is new and we are still learning. I was unable to be with him and had to wait for him to call or FaceTime me to see if he was okay. The last night me and his kids stayed in the hospital parking lot under his room hopeful for a miracle. The staff opened a blind that would allow us to see when people were coming in his room. We learned that when the door was open and several people were in the room that was a bad sign. The nurse he had Allison would give us thumbs up or down signs or write us notes to show through the window. We watched from the parking lot when she would hold up the sign that said CPR. Do you have any idea how hard it was to be standing in the cold waiting to see if the next sign was a thumbs up that he made it. My son had posted on Facebook and it reached a friend of Allison the nurse that cares for him. Last night that post my son made was forwarded to her and she told us she played and sang how great thou art and held his hand as he drew his last breath. I am angry I should have been there and been with him the last fourteen days of his life. I say this to tell you covid is real and I like many others did not understand the magnitude of this disease. Jim was healthy and strong and that virus kept regenerating overnight in his lungs. Covid took my husband and my children's father. I am overwhelmed at the response and outpouring from everyone. I am unable to answer back at this time. Please pray for me and our five children to find the strength to get through this!! This story was posted on 2020-11-20 04:33:18
