Poetry by Robert Stone: No longer present keep

No longer present keep: a sonnet of life going on
From rising to the setting of the sun
your travel short or long is your own choice,
from stay in place to seek adventure fun,
from much rejoicing loud to silenced voice.

The solitary fisher in his boat,
a scattering of birds in search of food,
debris not washed away and still afloat,
these shoreline sights enhance your morning mood.

Some workers hustling clocking in and out,
a line of customers unfazed by wait,
the locals living life yet go about,
these city circumstances fascinate.

As every day and time and place arrive
no longer present keep my heart alive.

-Robert Stone, 11 November 2020
