Giles Festival in Knifley Saturday, October 2, 2004 The Giles Society Arts and Crafts Day is an annual event at the Giles House in Knifley, Kentucky, just a few miles north of Columbia, and everyone is invited to attend and enjoy crafts booths, country-style foods, music and clear spring water. The Janice Holt and Henry Giles Foundation has restored the cabin in which most of the Giles' books were written at Spout Springs. Events are held there regularly. In addition to lawn chairs and food, folks often bring empty water containers with them and take home a sample of the clear, cold spring water which Henry often wrote about in his regular column called "Spout Springs Splashes" in the 1970s. You can find many stories in the archives on the Foundation and on the authors. Once again this year, on National Public Radio, they announced the location name as if there's a knife in the word, it's not called knife-lee. The local pronounciation of the community name Knifley has the word "if" in the middle: N-if-lee. See you there! For reflections on the annual event, go to: Janice and Henry would have been proud...
