LCDHD COVID-19 Public Information Brief 08/21/2020
Eight new cases reported in Adair at week's end
By Amy Tomlinson
Lake Cumberland District Health Department
New Cases: We report that our total case count has increased by 38 today: Adair: 8; Casey: 3; Clinton: 2; Cumberland: 3; Green: 3; McCreary: 1; Pulaski: 12; Russell: 3; and, Taylor: 3. Our current new case growth rate is: 1.016. This means our total case count is projected to double every 43.68 days.
Even without a large number of new nursing home cases to report, we still added 38 new cases today. Also, our total number of hospitalizations have increased by 2 to 22. One area hospital has asked for increased surveillance data to be better prepared for a spike. Also, many of the schools are asking for increased access to information. We have complied by adding our Master Dataset to our main COVID-19 page, and by providing a special report to the inquiring hospital.
I have had numerous requests for information tied to school positives. Between faculty, staff, and students, we have positive cases currently tied to 5 public schools, 2 private schools, and 4 colleges/universities.
Please help us slow the spread of COVID-19 by wearing your face covering, avoiding crowds (especially in confined spaces), social distancing when around others, increasing your hand hygiene, increasing your general sanitation, and by avoiding the touching of your face.
Deaths: We are pleased to report no new deaths today. We have experienced a total of 51 deaths resulting in a 3.1% mortality rate among known cases.
Hospitalizations: We presently have 22 cases in the hospital. We have had a total of 158 hospitalizations resulting in a 9.7% hospitalization rate among known cases. The latest state data shows that 67% of ICU beds and 27% of ventilator capacity are being utilized.
Released (Not contagious) Cases: We released 22 cases today from isolation. Released cases include: Casey: 1; Clinton: 1; Cumberland: 1; McCreary: 4; Pulaski: 9; Russell: 4; and, Taylor: 2. In all, we have released 82.3% of our total cases.
Total (Cumulative) Cases: The Lake Cumberland District has experienced a total of 1,621 cases since the onset of the outbreak. This has resulted in us reaching out to over 9,632 contacts (a rough average of 6 contacts per case).
Active (Current) Cases: Taking all things into account, this leaves us with 236 active cases in our district across all 10 of our district's 10 counties. Of those active cases, 69 are asymptomatic.
New Cases: We report that our total case count has increased by 38 today: Adair: 8; Casey: 3; Clinton: 2; Cumberland: 3; Green: 3; McCreary: 1; Pulaski: 12; Russell: 3; and, Taylor: 3.
