Columbian arrested on drug charges in Pulaski County From Mary Ellis According to Pulaski County Sheriff Greg Speck, a Columbia, KY man was arrested and charged with several drug-related offenses after a traffic stop at approximately 10:30pmET on Sunday night, August 2, 2020. Deputy Tan Hudson was conducting surveillance in East Hills Subdivision Sunday night when he observed a vehicle turn onto East Highway 80 driving carelessly. The vehicle was seen leaving a known drug house that Deputy Hudson had been investigating. Deputy Hudson and Sergeant Richard Smith conducted a traffic stop and contacted the vehicle operator, Joshua Akin, age 31, of Mitchell Street, Columbia, KY. Deputy Hudson's investigation led to the request of a drug-detecting canine from the Sheriff's Office to perform a vehicle "walk-around " for the detection of possible contraband within the vehicle. Sergeant Smith, who was already at the scene of the stop, used K9 Giro to do the "walk-around." A positive alert by K9 Giro resulted in the discovery of a large baggie and three small baggies containing a white crystal substance, weighing approximately 14 grams in total. Akin was arrested without incident and charged with the following: Trafficking in Controlled Substance 1st Degree, 1st Offense (over 2 grams) Possession of Drug Paraphernalia Akin was lodged in the Pulaski County Detention Center. The investigation continues by the Narcotics Division of the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office. This story was posted on 2020-08-04 07:13:03
