CU releases new schedule and guidelines for fall semester By Ariel C. Emberton Campbellsville, KY - Campbellsville University's administration has announced the academic calendar and accompanying guidelines for the fall 2020 semester. Dr. Donna Hedgepath, provost and vice president for academic affairs, announced that the fall 2020 semester will have a unique schedule for the term. A staggered move-in with meal service begins Aug. 21, 2020. Remote instruction will begin on Sept. 3, and face-to-face will occur Sept. 8 through Nov. 24, 2020. Again, remote instruction and examinations will complete the semester, ending on Dec. 11, 2020. Residence halls and food services will be available for students Aug. 21- Dec. 11. Hedgepath said other notable changes in the academic calendar include elimination of the October fall break. In-person instruction will cease on Nov. 24 with coursework resuming remotely on Nov. 30, following the Thanksgiving holiday. "The changes to the academic calendar were driven by continued concern for health concerns of the Campbellsville University student body, faculty, staff and coaches," Hedgepath said. "This calendar eliminates the normal times of heightened travel during the semester and provides alternatives to ensure students still receive the quality, personal instruction they have grown to expect from Campbellsville University," Hedgepath said. The specific dates are as follows:
Information on Resident Life, the Office of Student Activities, Counseling Services, the Betty Dobbins Heilman Student Wellness Center, the Center for Global Engagement, athletics, university travel, Pioneer College Caterers Inc., and regional centers can all be found in the CU Ready plan. Students and employees will be expected to be tested for COVID-19 before returning to campus. Information on when to be tested and where to send results are included in the plan as well. The plan also has information on a virtual daily health check-in through an updated CU app, which is scheduled to be released in mid-August. Students will be provided a CU Health Kit, containing items including masks, a thermometer, hand sanitizer and other materials. In the event of a positive case on university property, Campbellsville University will immediately follow guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the local health department. "This has been a very judicious process," said Dave Walters, the university's officer for CU's healthy at work initiative. "From the outset of being aware of the COVID-19 pandemic, Campbellsville University has taken steps to protect all who are within the university community. The CU Ready plan is a continuance of this process," he said. The CU Ready plan was recently made available to Campbellsville University employees and students and is available on Campbellsville University's website at www.campbellsville.edu/reopen. The CU Ready plan guidelines are in accordance with regulations set by both the CDC and Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear.
