Joe Birdwell, 70, Columbia, KY (1949-2020)

Joe Birdwell of Columbia passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on the Louie B. Nunn Parkway in Russell County.

The funeral service will be held at 1pmCT on Saturday, August 1, 2020, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, with burial to follow in Freedom Cemetery.

Visitation is requested after 5pmCT on Friday.

Everyone attending the visitation or funeral service will be required to wear a mask.

He was born September 19, 1949 in Russell County to the late James Earl & Jessie Marie George Birdwell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, William, Phillip, David & James Birdwell, and one sister, Eva Garner. Joe was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served during the Vietnam War, sold produce and enjoyed fishing.

Survivors Include:
  • His Wife - Bonnie Denton Birdwell of Columbia
  • Three Sons - Billy Birdwell of Campbellsville, Daryll Birdwell of Benton, KY & Randall Denton of Campbellsville
  • One Daughter - Litisha Douglas of Glasgow
  • Three Sisters - Mattie Guffey of Jamestown, Mae Rexroat of Columbia & Susie Todd of Russell Springs
  • Eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren & one expectant great-grandchild
  • Several other relatives & friends
