Delie Burton, 94

Delie Burton, 94, a resident of Summit Manor Nursing Home, Columbia, KY, formerly of the Christine Community, passed away Thursday, June 17, 2004, at 11:43 p.m., at the nursing home.

The funeral will be Monday, June 21, 2004, at 1:00 p.m., at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, with Dr. Greg Burton officiating.


She was the daughter of the late W.P. "Pete" and Maudie Ann Burton McQueary and was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny F. Burton, on September 25, 1985.

She is survived by the following:
  • Three sons: Thelbert Burton and his wife Charlotte, Louisville, KY; Prenith Burton and his wife, Deloris, Glasgow, KY; and John Burton and his wife, Naomi, Columbia, KY.
  • Five daughters: Margie McKenzie and her husband Henry, Louisville; Kathryn Burton and her late husband Lawrence, Columbia, KY; Barbara Churchill and her husband Tom, California; Betty Jo Sneed and her husband William, Columbia, KY; and Georgie Mings and her husband Ralph, Campbellsville, KY.
  • Two sisters: Ellen McQuaide, Columbia, KY; an Mary Jane Walker, Ramsey, IN
  • And 19 grandchildren, several step-grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren, several step great grandchildren and great great grandchildren
She was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister: Oley, W.E. Elvin, Ivan, and Walker McQueary and Dorothy Cornelious.

Delie Burton was a member of the Purdy Separate Baptist Church, custodian at Shepherd Grade Center for several years, and a homemaker.

Burial will be in Haven Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 5:00 p.m. CDT, Sunday, June 20, 2004, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.
