Gene Rogers, 71, Korean Conflict Veteran

Gene Rogers, 71, 705 Mitchell Street, Columbia, KY, died Sunday, May 23, at 4:05 p.m., at Taylor County Hospital in Campbellsville, KY.

The funeral service will be Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at 2:00 p.m., at Grissom Funeral Home with Rev. Glen McInteer officiating; burial will follow in the Beulah Chapel Cemetery with military honors presented by VFW Post 6097.


Visitation will be after 5 p.m., Monday, May 24, at Grissom Funeral Home, Columbia, KY.

Mr. Rogers was a son of the late Walter and Ella Marie Honey Rogers of Missouri, a veteran of the Korean Conflict, and a former carpenter.

Survivors include the following:
  • His Wife: Betty Rae Bernard Rogers, Columbia, KY
  • One son: Ricky O'Neal Burton, Columbia, KY
  • Two daughters: Sherry Akin and Sheila and her husband, Marvin Morgan, all of Columbia, KY
  • Two brothers: David Rogers, Indiana; and Clinton Edward Rogers, Missouri
  • Two sisters: Edith Shadrick, Missouri; and Martha McAnelly, Nevada
  • Six grandchildren: Kellie Robertson, Eric Morgan, Tiffany Morgan, Seth Akin (currently serving in the US Army in Iraq), and Nathan and Josh Akin
  • Two great grandchildren and one step great grandchild
  • And several other relatives and friends
Grissom Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
