Do you fight Dandelions? Or enjoy them in a salad?

The Dandelion is resilient with a capital "z". Whatever we do in Adair County, it seems we can mow the yard, look back and Dandelion puffs are already waving in the spring breeze as if the lawnmower had never touched them. Do you fight Dandelions out of your grass? Or do you enjoy their young leaves in a salad? Going beyond the aggravation, the Dandelion has a colorful past including uses as everything from an herb beer to Dandelion wine to a medicine for liver complaints . . .

On the website www.botanical.com the story of the Dandelion is a rich one.

In addition to beer, wine and salad greens, you can use the Dandelion as a diuretic and as a general stimulant to the system, especially to the urinary organs.

Dandelion can be used as a mild laxitive "in habitual constipation", and is even mentioned in discussion about gall stones. Incredible, isn't it? And here we are spraying to destroy this plant.

If you'd like to start harvesting your Dandelion crop instead of fighting it, click on the underlined Botanical web link above to get all the details you'd ever care to know about its history, cultivation, chemical constituents, medicinal uses and the preparations and dosages.
