The purple tree identity One tree has been a delight this year, dotting the countryside with lovely lavendar color. We polled readers and discovered its true identity . . . The purple tree is officially called Paulownia tomentosa; Royal Paulownia, Princess-tree, according to the book Trees & Shrubs of Kentucky by Mary E. Wharton and Roger W. Barbour.
