By Sheriff Josh Brockman
Adair County Sheriff's Office

On 5-18-20 at 12:28pm The Adair County Sheriffs Office was dispatched to an injury collision 7 miles north of Columbia on KY 55 north.

Upon arrival it was found that a single vehicle collision had occurred with rollover.

Preliminary investigation including interview with driver at hospital indicate that Benjamin Cady, 32, of Hodgenville, KY was traveling north in a 2016 Hyundai Elantra too fast for conditions due to rain.

After nearly striking another vehicle, went out in passing lane to overtake the vehicle in front of him.

Driver stated to Sheriff Brockman at hospital that at this point he was aggravated and intentionally ran his vehicle off the roadway in attempt to harm himself.

Vehicle left the roadway on right shoulder striking earth embankment and overturned 3 times coming to rest on its top. He was treated on scene by Adair EMS then transported to TJ Health Columbia. He was released later that evening into the custody of the Sheriffs Office where he was taken for additional care.

Sheriff Brockman is investigating the collision and was assisted by Deputy Derek Padgett, Adair EMS, and Columbia - Adair Fire.
