Mayor's Report to the City of Columbia Pamela Hoots, Mayor April, 2020 -- We have continued to work on alternating schedules, social distancing, and other preventive measures for our staff due to the COVID 19 pandemic. All departments are working together in cooperation for projects in our town. Around forty loads of brush, limbs, and other debris were pickedup by the city street department. Several ditches and tiles cleaned out in the month. Dalton Coppage and Zak Smith are now working with the city sanitation department. Zak will be getting his CDLs in the near future. Craig Lasley has been training on the routes (has his CDLs) as a backup. The project(s) in the basement are nearing completion (painting, tiles, new sink, etc.). Mowing of city park areas has started. Little League Park, new park, city park at fairgrounds. Mary Ann Loy has began the planting of the rose bushes at the Trabue Russell House. (first eighteen are being planted). These were purchased in memory of/in honor of members of our community. Sandy Conover is helping her with this project. The ditchline in front of Nanwood, Planet Acoustic, etc. was cleaned out. All planters on the square were cleaned out. Around 15 street lights were turned-in for repair. The second phase of lighting on Patricia Trail/Corporate Drive has started. We have talked with Kentucky RECC about the next phase of lighting to begin at the intersection of Burkesville Street/West Highway 80. It will start there and go toward the intersection at the bottom of the hill. Godfrey Jackson has volunteered to serve as our chaplain. He started this month. Ethan Pike has joined the Columbia City Police Department. Gas regulator stations have been mowed. Please look at the following for blacktopping: Reed Street (behind city hall), Miller Avenue (to curve), Guthrie (from Montgomery to Elm), Harvey Street (Jamestown to Loy Drive), Entrance to Little League (1st entrance) (2nd entrance), Exit lower parking lot Little League, Third parking lot for Little League, parking lot (Minor Drive), Grady Loop (from Bomar Heights to just below Brown Drive), and Clinton Street (corner of Garrett to new blacktop). We appreciate everyone working together. This story was posted on 2020-04-29 11:40:18
